Today’s B is for BATHE, by oh mag editor, Eminé Rushton
’I’ve always sought solace in the tub – just the act of locking the bathroom door, lighting a candle, scattering a handful of salt into the steaming water and lacing with oil, is enough to drive my stressed out shoulders down an inch or two.

That moment, of sinking into the bath – holding my breath, so as not to pierce the stillness of it all – calls me back night after night, like a Siren song… I love the peaceful cocoon afforded us when we sink under the water. Lying there, watching the steam rise, the candle flicker, feeling my limbs turn liquid irrespective of the knots or gnarls of the day… this is my happy place. Some days, I’ll scatter rose buds into the water for their fragrant soothing steam; others, dead sea salt and dried calendula, which calms my sensitive skin so well; or oats tied up in a muslin cloth – squeeze them in the water so that the oats release their wonderful milky soothing properties – great if my skin feels irritated; most often, I’ll drop some rose essential oil into a little drizzle of jojoba oil and then sprinkle the oil into the water.

If you’ve had one of those days when everything felt prickly, fractious, unkind, this feels like the natural antidote – warm, cosseting, floating, breathing, steaming… realising how happy we feel in water, how close to ‘home’…’
